In support of petition for more policing in Chemainus/Crofton

Dear North Cowichan nayor and council:

I heartily support a community petition toward fulfilling a long-standing promise to assign two RCMP officers for 24/7 coverage in our growing Chemainus-Crofton areas.

Chemainus and Crofton business owners and residents have complained for years about a swelling crime caseload, especially since the busy Chemainus RCMP detachment was foolishly closed some years ago.

That left our busy cops rushing, for a crucial 20 minutes or so, from Duncan to scenes in our north end.

That’s far too long following serious accidents — and during crimes, especially those in progress.

Former local policeman Terry van Seters’ laudable petition stops short of requesting our Chemainus detachment be re-opened.

I now urge council to finally re-open that detachment to better serve and protect north-end residents, businesses and properties.

Thanks in advance for your wise consideration.
