Dear editor,
Union Bay landowners and residents have been patiently waiting since the last election when the majority of trustees and a local developer offered free water treatment, an extended infrastructure agreement, a marina and golf course, etc. It’s time for an update on progress and these are the facts as I know them. Information from UBID is non-existent and transparency went out the window long ago. There is no golf course, no marina, no extended agreement and no water treatment. Any current plans remain imaginary as there is no plan, the strategic plan expired in August 2017, and the vision and mission statements are words from past years. There is no business or financial plan and no grant funding is forthcoming for this capital project (water treatment).
To date, there is no approved building site for a treatment plant, no engineering or geotechnical reviews and no site survey. The UBID board will surely fail to meet VIHA’s requirement to have a building permit in place by August 31. Moreover the project is losing all credibility to be complete by Aug 31, 2018. On the positive side UBID may have purchased the filtration equipment for approximately $500,000 but no one knows for sure, and is this not putting the cart before the horse?
Unfortunately I could not confirm any of this information with the UBID administrator. In a recent email to me he indicated that he was not obliged to respond to my correspondence because I was no longer a landowner in Union Bay. Therefore these are my opinions, observations and conclusions.
