At an interfaith gathering at his church the Rev. Twiddy assured one of his parishioners that Jesus would have used the word “allah” when he prayed. I am surprised that a man of the cloth could be so misinformed. Jesus spoke and prayed in Hebrew and Aramaic, not Arabic. Given that Islam was founded almost seven centuries after Jesus’s crucifixion, it is obvious that He never uttered the word “allah” while praying or otherwise. This creeping cultural revisionism is a disturbing modern trend. While interfaith dialogue is laudable, the good Reverend should not bend over backwards so far that that he can’t see the facts.
