The news that the Department of National Defence is considering tearing down the Brigadier Murphy Armoury is a shock and a slap in the face to the thousands of Canadian servicepersons who trained there since it was built.
To the Vernon area, at least, is a memorial to those who offered their lives that we might be a free country.
The building has, since hostilities ended, trained hundreds of youth as cadets.
The City of Vernon says it is in excellent condition. My granddaughter’s wedding reception was there only five years ago and it was a very convenient and attractive setting.
It is one of B.C.’s memorials to the service personnel of Canada who offered their lives to keep the country and it has trained hundreds of cadets since.
Please, it is a memorial and it is useful. Do not destroy it.
