I’ve been following the progress of the Aquatic society with great interest. Hats off to all who are involved in fundraising for this necessary and worthwhile project.
I’m glad to see the dream has never died since we brought this project to referendum in 1988. We had a group of committed volunteers consisting of myself, Rosalie Nichiporuk, Norma Smith, Glenda Olson, and the Kinsmen and Kinette clubs of Vanderhoof. Patty Gauder was an asset to the group as well in her capacity as office manager. My apologies if I left anyone out [memories fade after 27 years!]
We enjoyed tremendous support within the community but unfortunately lacked the support of the mayor and other elected officials of the day. Without them on board, we fought an uphill battle and the project was defeated at referendum. You are fortunate to have mayor Gerry Thiessen and his Council publicly endorse and embrace this project.
I’m glad to see that your fundraising campaign has enjoyed so much success and the community is united in efforts to finally bring this dream to reality. The campaign has taken on a life of its own and your society is to be admired for the effort that you put in.
I look forward to following your journey as you get closer to building this much needed aquatic centre.
