Editor: I am a frequenter of the Timms Community Centre. I enjoy utilizing the exercise room. It’s not the most modern, but it has a “feel” that I have always felt comfortable with.
For those who may not know about the Timms Centre, it was re-located to its current location a couple of years ago after being located next to the library. It’s now located on Eastleigh Crescent.
The centre has a large number of “regulars.” We come from all demographics.
I recently wished the always friendly staff, a “Happy New Year” after completing my workout. We chatted a bit, and the topic of who comes to the centre came up.
They related a couple of stories to me that I feel compelled to share.
The first was about the special needs person who is at the centre every day.
This person loves to play a particular video game. It turns out that one day, the game disappeared. Apparently tossed out in the trash.
When another staff member heard about this and thought he knew where the game may have been tossed. He did a dumpster dive, and found the game.
Another story, is kind of an ongoing story. Apparently, people attending the centre leave all kinds of things behind — jackets, boots, wallets, phones.
The staff member told me that people have come back to look for their lost items and find them.
It’s a great feeling to have — knowing that our community has people like the staff at the Timms Centre and has people who are respectful of others’ property.
