Editor,
Re: Bob Erickson’s idea for the info centre.
While I agree with buying and moving town hall and other services and infrastructure to the Emil Anderson Construction (EAC) property, to move the info centre to where town hall is now, seems a little ridiculous and not fully thought out.
First, when people are looking for an info centre, they want easy off and on access to the facility along the path they are traveling and they want to be able to see it. They do not want to have to go out of their way to find it.
Second, have you seen on some days how many people stop at the info centre we have now? There is not enough parking in town to support people just looking for a quick bathroom break, stretch of the legs or to get information on what’s further up the highway. So to still do this you may as well turn more of the park into a parking lot to support it.
If you look around at other visitor info centres, you will see how they are situated along the main travel portion of the highways with easy access. Do me a favor and look at the Williams Lake visitor centre.
In my opinion, tear down what’s there now. It’s a pretty good sized lot especially if you move Hope Volunteer Search and Rescue to the EAC property, with a fair amount of parking around it not just for cars but also motorhomes and RVs.
A big no to moving it to Memorial Park for obvious reasons.
