Having received a violation sticker on my garbage can for putting my rubbish out one day prior to pickup, I was taken aback by the tone of the violation notice.
I happen to be a senior citizen who is somewhat handicapped having had open heart surgery and I also have serious back trouble. It is with some pain and difficulty that I manage to get all my rubbish bins to the curbside, therefore I do this chore when I feel I am able to do so on the day before pickup. Clearly, I fear not being able to have it all together on garbage day.
Unfortunately, because of my foresight, my address is now “On Record” for having violated a municipal bylaw and I am threatened with a $250 fine should it happen again.
Now I feel like public enemy number one thanks to the autocrats at Mission Municipal Hall.
Somehow I think a violation notice that explains the wishes of the municipality to have people refrain from putting out the garbage bins before 5 a.m. would be sufficient without the implied threats and fines. We’re already being pushed around enough by bureaucrats who delight in forcing us to wear masks, quarantine, close businesses, and exercise social distancing because of the Covid pandemic. So lighten up a little, will ya?
