Dear editor,
A few days ago I was at a local fast foods place having a coffee and I noticed this busy little bee cleaning tables and taking away plates. I said, “Now I would hire her in a minute.” Because I have reached the slippery slope of life, I just up and talk to people I find interesting.
So I said: “Working your way through university?”
She stopped to say, “No I am still in high school, people think I am older than I am. But I am checking universities out and I hope to go to SFU and take a business degree with computer science.”
“You must have good grades.”
“Oh yes, my parents come from North Africa, they are teachers and they insist I do well in school. They speak French, Arabic and English. I speak French, English and I understand Arabic.”
And off this vibrant young woman, full of life, with her future secure in Canada went to clean up more tables.
Before she went behind the counter I said, “You are the reason why Canada needs immigrants!”
She looked me in the eye and smiled, “Awe, thank you. You are awesome.”
Do we need to say any more about immigration and Canada?
