I propose a pro-active and voluntary alternative to the carbon tax.
Taxpayers may buy trees and vines from a nursery and plant them in their yard. The taxpayer then gets to deduct the price of the trees from their income tax and the atmosphere gets to store at least some of its CO2 for the next X number of years. Government still gets its pound of flesh from GST and PST.
And retailers get to discount trees and vines for higher sales numbers.
And maybe have to hire more people.
Win, win, win!
