I’m writing in regards to the dog park on Sheffield Way in Sardis that was covered in gravel. This is so very typical of our city. They’ve taken a wonderful dog park and buried it in tons of uninviting, sharp, dirty gravel. Turning it into a parking lot.

If, as they say, drainage was the problem, then you address that problem. The correct procedure would be to add some drain rock, covered by a sandy loam soil and then to re-seed. You don’t just bury the problem and hope that takes care of it.
And what about the weeds that are already starting to pop up? They can’t mow it any more, so that leaves spraying the weeds with weed killer.
Nothing like taking a nice healthy park and ruining it. I’m not sure who is in planning and development of city property, but they obviously have no clue how to do things. Some sort of research should have been done first, and those who use these parks should have had some say in it. But no, they just bulldoze ahead with asinine ideas and hope no one complains.
Well, sorry Chilliwack, we are complaining. What a waste of taxpayers’ money and a wonderful park.
