Earlier this summer, travelling home to Penticton from Fernie, my car broke down in a “no service zone” outside Christina Lake. Stranded on the highway, in the early evening, is a most frightening experience, especially with no cellular service.
A lovely couple from Calgary who vacation at Christina Lake stopped and helped organize for a tow truck to come get me.
I shall always regret not getting the tow truck driver’s name as he went far beyond getting my car, my dog and me to Grand Forks. He gave me assistance in contacting the men at Magnum Auto Inc. who agreed to come in the next day, a holiday, to see what could be done.
With the annual baseball tournament underway in Grand Forks, accommodation was extremely limited but he and the man at the Imperial Motel were successful in finding me a one-night-only spot at Johnny’s Motel.
Even though it was a holiday the next day, thanks to the fellows at Magnum Auto and Lordco, I was back on the road that afternoon.
As a councillor for the City of Penticton, I am well aware of the importance of a first impression/experience and Grand Forks certainly scored aces with me.
My sincere thanks to many helping hands!
