For several weeks we have noticed unsightly green commercial garbage bins popping up on several residential streets in Oak Bay, including our street.
Initially it was just one bin, now it is two and they are there for up to four hours at a time. In our case, the bins take up two to three parking spaces, this on a street that has limited parking already. With three separate trips for depositing, emptying, and removing the bins, truck traffic on the street and the associated noise has increased annoyingly.
The bins are not servicing local residents. They are coming from elsewhere – “somewhere in the neighbourhood” as the driver of the truck emptying stated when asked. He also said that they are using our street because “it is convenient.”
Not to us, that’s for sure.
Trying to get a response from the company depositing the bins is difficult, time-consuming and not responsive.
A call to Public Works in Oak Bay was also not responsive as they disclaimed any responsibility.
Why this is happening is not clear, but it seems to us that the municipality should try to get to the bottom of it and do something about it. Your street could well be next.
