Letter: Couldn’t live in Kelowna as there’s no place for dogs

Having travelled the world and being a dog lover, Kelowna is the worst place I have ever seen. The poor dogs of Kelowna.

To the editor:

I read with interest the letter published on Friday July 18th from Helen Schiele concerning the lack of concern by the city towards dog owners. (Dog ‘Ambassadors’ would be Better Used Looking for Children Left to Bake Inside Parked Cars)

Having only one dog beach at the south end of the city is unacceptable. Not being able to walk on grass at the city park is also a disgrace. You would be surprised to know that these beloved pets are a member of our family and good pet owners do keep their dogs on leash, pick up after them, have them groomed and vaccinated regularly. They are probably also very well behaved because their owners have taught them to listen.

In case you were wondering: I am not a resident of this city. I live in Northern Ontario where dogs and pet owners are a valued part of society. Over the years of visiting Kelowna I have always commented on how I could never live here with respect to all the restrictions on dogs.

Why not have several areas where dogs can swim? Having travelled the world and being a dog lover, Kelowna is the worst place I have ever seen. The poor dogs of Kelowna.

Debbie Bazuik,

Timmins
