Being a Delta resident, the idea of apartment buildings coming up next to Firehall Center for the Arts is not positive.
Change is part of life and it’s good when it’s done in the right way. For example, when the new [North Delta Recreation Centre] extension was done, they had to take out trees ([and] not a few of them) just to make way for residents to park since there were limited parking spaces. It [was] the right move since there are events during the summer [and] when schools resume [there are] parents and people moving [through] the ND Rec Center.
However, demolishing trees which have lived here longer to put up apartments in this area will mean losing one of the beautiful aspects of mother nature our community still strives to keep.To us Delta folks [that] is something important.
The council has already given approval for two residences on one property, but it does not seem enough. The [municipality] has done a lot to put up trees where development has made a change to nature, but I fear if we make way for one batch of apartment buildings, it will happen in other areas where developers could buy [and] combine property in one section only to make[an] apartment building.
Why are people not thinking townhouses? There are some in certain pockets and Delta has not lost its charm having them around.
