Letter: Doc’s diet upsets senior

A letter writer is upset with her family's treatment by the medical system.

Dear Editor,

My husband and I are senior citizens.

Over the years neither of us have ever had health care issues taken care of in a timely fashion. Our friends are waiting for surgeries and appointments to see specialists.

It even takes several weeks to see our general practioners.

My husband has had many months of pain in the stomach area and at 70 years old was told by a specialist he needs to stop eating anything but what the cow eats but not the cow.

That goes for all animals and animal products.

Only greens.

Not to eat fruit either because fruit is too sweet and he has a few extra pounds.

He will not do surgery and he is a surgeon.

Why would a surgeon expect anyone to go vegan or vegetarian at 70 years when he was born and raised on meats as well.

I am outraged.

Doctors need to keep their preferences to themselves.

So now we wait for another opinion on surgery.

My mother-in-law died of this same illness because her doctor had her wait until it was too late and she never recovered. My husband’s older brother had the surgery with a good result and also his sister had the same surgery with another good result.

They were all in their 70s when the acute diverticulitis were repaired.

This is truly an outrage.

We have all paid into the system all our families and this is the treatment we get?
