The recent town hall meeting regarding a trial allowing leashed dogs on the promenade during the winter months, brought out the same vocal naysayers that this town seems to have in abundance.
One woman even made the outrageous comment that if this was approved by council people would visit from such places as Surrey and even, God forbid, Langley and Abbotsford.
Are you kidding me? We are a seaside town. That’s what seaside towns do. We need visitors to support what few businesses we have left on Marine Drive. We cannot depend on the people of White Rock, that’s for sure.
The city needs the tax base from successful businesses. They cannot tax the homeowners any more than they do currently.
By the way, if you feel we don’t need visitors to this town to bring revenue to White Rock, take a look at almost every street, road or avenue in the municipality – no sidewalks, road surfaces in dire need of repaving and butt-ugly power poles that disfigure every streetscape with their mass of wires.
This is what impoverished Third World countries contend with, not rich, industrial nations like Canada.
“And we don’t need visitors to our town.” Give me a break.
