LETTER: Enforcement of noisy vehicles has so far been disappointing

Re: Vehicle noise citations the “tip of the iceberg,” Aug. 6

I was heartened when Peace Arch News originally published the story that the RCMP would be targeting loud cars and motorcycles. However, having now read your update Aug. 6, I am very disappointed in the response from the RCMP.

Twelve written inspection orders for loud mufflers and 14 orders for other vehicle defects. Really? Twelve and 14! Perhaps spending an hour or so any Friday after 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday afternoons and evenings on the corner of Oxford and North Bluff, AKA White Rock Speedway, would increase these numbers significantly.

There are times that I must close windows and doors as one cannot have a conversation for the noise. Drivers love coming up the Oxford Street hill and going west on North Bluff. If they can time the light just right, well, they have the perfect speedway and can really open up.

While I appreciate the huge pressure the RCMP are under on so many fronts, I remain disappointed that so little appears to being done to prevent White Rock citizens’ enjoyment of summer because of these drivers who feel they are entitled to have the run of the road.
