Open letter to Penticton city council.
It is time that you, as our elected representatives, stand up to the planning department and insist that it provides concrete, quantified and supportable evidence that what they are recommending (the economic investment zones) is in the best interest of the residents of Penticton.
This should happen each and every time city staff bring a recommendation before council for some type of variance, a deviation or exception.
What you need to determine, on our behalf, is what financial benefits accrues to the ratepayers, who will be required to make up that revenue shortfall in the form of additional property taxes over the next 10 years.
