Letter: Examining the cause of anti-Semitism

"I was surprised to read how religious some in Penticton must be given the recent two letters"

I was surprised to read how religious some in Penticton must be given the recent two letters which sounded more like preaching to the converted rather than being particularly interesting — just the typical religious rehash.

I certainly would enjoy a chance to inform those two writers that, for starters, reading the Bible is the quickest way to send a person down the road to atheism, as it did with me.

Any secular humanist knows that already.

But as space is always at a premium in community papers, to enlighten those writers on what their Bible teaches them is not what they would want to hear would take far more space then could be allowed for obvious reasons.

However, just on Nov. 29, the head of the Church of England made an admission as to the source of anti-Semitism. It was something that I have known about for years, although I’ve never found an editor willing to risk me stating the obvious.

The admission was the Christian scriptures that your two contributors find so moral and God’s divine plan for humanity are the direct cause of anti-Semitism.

I would be interested in knowing how your two Bible champions explain that revelation away?

Or would they do like most moderate Christians do and either call things that they don’t like merely metaphors or, more likely, simply ignore the nasty bits in scripture?

Still, I hope they and others enjoy the annual Pagan picnic on Dec. 25, a time of celebration culturally appropriated from the Pagan Romans, and that your two writers come to learn that it is all just Santa Claus for adults.
