Letter: Film industry threatens Canada’s carbon promises

We need our government to stand by its word to cut carbon emissions by one-third in the next 10 years

We need our government to stand by its word to cut carbon emissions by one-third in the next 10 years.

The film industry is one reason why. Foreign production companies are an embarrassment to Canadian integrity. They do not take responsibility for waste that they produce in our country. Tons of non environmentally friendly materials are thrown in the garbage in just a few short months of filming. They are here for the bonus of our low dollar and the amazing tax benefits but they leave behind their trash. Film companies show little to no effort in dealing with this issue.

Our government needs to become aware of this problem and do something about it. No film industry policies exist to manage proper disposal and recycling. With the film industry showing no signs of slowing down,w the issue is on the rise. Without governed change thrust upon film production companies, our environmental goals as a country will be hindered. I believe Canada should make true on the carbon emission promises given at the UN conference in Paris last December.
