Dear Editor:
When refugees and other people displaced by persecution, war, or violence are asked why they fled their homes, most say they feared for the safety of their children. Today, over half of the world’s 25.4 million refugees are under the age of 18.
Ever wonder what it’s like to be child refugee?
The Summerland Refugee Sponsorship Group is hosting a panel discussion (free admission) on this topic on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. at the I.O.O.F. Hall.
Three adults who each grew up in Canada after fleeing their respective countries (Vietnam, Liberia, Syria) as children will share their experiences. Their personal stories will inspire you.
Following the discussion, feel free to stay for the group’s Annual General Meeting and hear about our current sponsorships, future plans, and how to get involved in this cause.
