Dear Editor:
The intellectual wizards at Summerland city hall are performing their smoke and mirror tricks again.
They raise your electrical rates (yes this is a tax increase) where a surplus is created.
The city then transfers $500,000 from the electrical department surplus to the general city coffers, thus keeping the annual residential tax increase down.
They then use these monies to fund their frivolous pet projects.
Next time we have a prolonged power outage, think about it. Would that surplus not be better spent on improving the electrical system and/or lowering the high electrical rates rather on a baby sitting skate park benefiting a few, plus other questionable city projects?
