Letter: ‘Great life message delivered’

Re: O’Neill honoured as Home Town Hero.

I had the good fortune of attending the 20th annual Home Town Heroes award ceremony last week.

The event showcased an amazing local athlete, Tyler O’Neill of the St. Louis Cardinals. This is a sports figure that children aspire to be and look up to.

As he explained in his interview, if one is truly focused and gives it their all, anything is possible. What a great life message he delivered.

If only one kid gets this message and runs with it, the event is well worth it.

The evening also paid tribute to the 40-plus other local Home Town Heroes from past years. Wow. Very powerful. Well worth attending.

These events don’t just happen. I’m sure there is a tremendous amount of work that goes on behind the scenes by many volunteers.

I would like to thank them for their efforts and make a special shout out to Mary and Gord Robson, who have been instrumental in organizing and keeping this event going for the past 20 years.
