LETTER: Helping victims of the hotel fires

I want to share my sincere thoughts and feelings on the tragic fires of the Grand Forks and Winnipeg hotels.

Editor:

I want to share my sincere thoughts and feelings on the tragic fires of the Grand Forks and Winnipeg hotels.

I have many friends and family that worked at these establishments and am also aware of 15 or more people who have lost their homes and belongings.

These places were not just a spot to have a burger and beer, coffee or borscht; to some they were home.

They were also a meeting place for friends and historic staples of our town.

A sense of togetherness and love is what both owners and employees of these establishments offered. Through the years, I witnessed open arms filled with care the moment you stepped inside.

I am asking the community to give back and continue their acts of kindness; I am asking the community to help in any way possible, the owners of the Grand Forks Hotel, their staff and the people that lived there, as well as all the wonderful people at the Winnipeg Hotel.

I am asking you to do whatever you can. Even if it’s picking up a broom, donating materials, food or money. Even a simple hug I’m sure will be felt and appreciated at this time.

Whatever we all can do to help these people in their time of need will truly be felt as a community.

This is our time to pay it forward and come together.
