Letter: Key concerns continue to be density, traffic and parking on church housing project

Re: Church meets the challenge of affordable housing (Letters, OakBayNews.com)

As Mr. Blood is a member of Oak Bay United Church’s congregation, I would have thought that he would have been better informed. The church has told us many times that the driving force for the massive size of this development is to create income for the church’s survival for the next 100 years.

We have frequently told the church’s representatives that we are not expecting them to duplicate the style of buildings in the neighbourhood. What is critical is a focus on density; traffic and parking that are clearly the key issues to be considered in order to provide appropriate affordable housing. This is what we have stated to the church since the proposal’s introduction but regrettably all has fallen on deaf ears.

Incidentally, only 51 per cent of this project will be dedicated to affordable housing and the remaining 49 per centwill be at market rates so it is not entirely accurate to call it an affordable housing project.
