I was interested to see that Abbotsford School District survey acknowledged the quality of their staff and yet their educational assistants are the lowest paid in British Columbia.
Myself, after 10-plus years of working for SD34, have received one wage increase which amounted to around $3 a day raise.
Currently I get paid $19.52 an hour for 5.5 hours per day (an EA in Burnaby earns $27-$28 an hour).
We have been told that our benefit package is better, but I doubt it is $7-$8 an hour better.
I am frustrated why Kevin Godden chooses to ignore this major disparity in wages, while qualified staff who work with the most vunerable students continue to leave School District 34.
And while morale among staff is at an all-time low in Abbotsford.
