Letter: Make every vote count

Any of the suggested systems will be better than first-past-the-post

Have you voted for proportional representation yet?

I was pleased that our PR package arrived a day before we left for points south and that we were able to cast our vote to update our electoral system. When the current First-Past-the-Post system results in politicians like Doug Ford and Donald Trump, you know it’s time for a change. No leader or party should have 100 per cent of the power with only 40 to 50 per cent of the popular vote.

Knowing that my vote will actually matter is appealing, and I will continue to have a local MLA. As well, the idea of politicians working together is refreshing. If PR is good enough for some of the most stable and successful countries in the world, I think it will work in BC.

So, open your package. Check “Yes” to Proportional Representation. If you are not sure which PR system is the better option, leave it blank or go eeny-meeny-miny- moe. Any of the suggested systems will be better than first-past-the-post. Then, mail it back or drop it off to Service BC.

Let’s make every vote count by modernizing and improving B.C.’s voting system.
