I would like to make two points regarding the possible effluent dumping in Qualicum Bay (Bowser residents protest marine sewage outfall plan, The NEWS, May 21).
First, I attended the recent meeting at the Lighthouse community centre regarding this issue, which I’m pleased to say was very well-supported.
I asked why the RDN was going to the extra unnecessary expense of transferring this discharge all the way down the highway (which must be at least a mile) to dump it in our bay considering we were never given the option to vote on this project.
I did not get a sensible reply.
If this effluent is, as they claim, so clean then why go to this extra expense?
Secondly, and more importantly, when the majority of the world is so concerned with refuse being dumped in our oceans why, oh why, are our elected representatives prepared to go down in the history books as the authority that is actually happy to increase the amount of dumping? I feel all the cronies on the RDN who go ahead with this plan should hang their heads in shame!
They should also be shaking in their boots come the next elections.
