What is going on in Nelson? People get upset about wearing a mask in indoor public spaces? I am surprised. We moved here in spring from Ontario and we love it here.
One of the reasons we love it so much, people are so nice and we received nothing but kindness. So why are certain people so upset about the mask wearing? They see it as a restriction to their freedom? Did we not have the same discussion with mandatory seat belts in cars and wearing a motorcycle helmet? It is not about your individual right when we have a public health care system.
When you are severely injured because you don’t wear a seat belt or a helmet riding a motorcycle then we all pay for that health care cost. The same with COVID-19. If you prevent transmission of the virus by 10 per cent by wearing a mask then it is worthwhile and you are saving lives and lessen the burden on the health care system.
So let’s be kind to each other and make it as painless as possible. Wearing a mask is not painful. It is an inconvenience. Let’s get through this together.
