To the editor:
Wade Paterson did a great job on the front page article (Struggling to Eliminate Waste, June 27 Capital News) regarding the Westside Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) which is run and operated by the Regional District of Central Okanagan.
In the first week of June, the regional district spent over $50,000 ‘fixing’ and replacing the media in the biofilter. On 24 June, with no decrease in odours, I sent an email to Chris Radford, director of community services, asking what the next steps the region had planned to fix the problem.
No response.
Other neighbours submitted odour complaints for the first week of July. They were told about a two-year monitoring project with UBCO which ‘may’ result in additional changes.
Where is the sense of responsibility and accountability for a problem that is over three years old? Your and my tax dollars “hard at work”? I think not.
