Letter: More consultation on development in Penticton

The planning department and council made an amendment to the official community plan.

Here we go again.

The planning department and council made an amendment to the official community plan without adequate consultation with the public.

A one day notice was placed and they amended the bylaw that stated: “There should be no more than 50 dwellings per hectare close to a school or park.” Had we attended the meeting we could have asked for a public forum and had input from the school, ball players and residents of the Parkway area. Not even the person who brought this bylaw to their attention was notified and he had numerous meetings with the planning department, councillors and mayor.

In my opinion this again was a closed backroom deal. The council has now hired an engagement officer to “engage” the public, yet they continue to make decisions with no consultation or public input. I find it discouraging and frustrating that we are now going to pay to have the OCP revised when the planning department and city can change it without making an honest attempt to engage the public.
