Dear editor,

LETTER - More handicap parking options needed in downtown Courtenay

Dear editor,

I would like to comment on the lack of handicap spaces on Fifth Street in Courtenay. Going up Fifth from Cliffe, there is one around the corner on Duncan and one in the parking lot facing Fourth Street, as well as one facing it on Duncan, as well as one on Fourth, facing Butchers Block. There are also two at the corners of Fifth and England. Mid-block parking would be particularly helpful to those of us who wish to shop on Fifth between Cliffe Avenue and England. Neither walking up and down the hill on Fifth nor the distances involved are particularly easy.

My other, and a major complaint is that on a recent trip downtown every space was taken and only one vehicle displayed a handicap sticker. While looking for any available parking, I twice noticed young, able-bodied adults park in handicap spaces.

I, and many others who need these spaces would appreciate more, and better-located ones. We would also very much appreciate a little courtesy from others.

Gordon Darling,

Comox
