LETTER: MP’s pop-up meetings inadequate

From reader Bonnie Baker…

Re: “MP should have West Kootenay office,” Letters, July 23

I thoroughly agree with Wayne Stetski that our MP Rob Morrison should open an office in the West Kootenay, and that it is within his budget to do so. His answer, that so-called “pop-up” meetings are adequate, gives me the impression that he wants to have control of the times his constituents can meet him face-to-face.

Having never met Mr. Morrison until last week on a Zoom call with a group I’m with, I asked him the same question about an office specifically in Nelson. He assured me he’d inform me when his next “pop-up” meeting will be and I’ll get on the list.

This is not adequate, I say. Offices throughout the riding would also provide jobs for a couple of folks who would have to become informed about the issues that are important for the people of the different areas in his clearly very large territory. It will also prevent all the air pollution Mr. Morrison will create driving his car from one pop-up place to another. Or perhaps, we’ll just get to meet with him for his whole term in office on Zoom.
