Letter: Much gratitude for local health care workers

Recently our family had a great deal to do with the health care system during a very traumatic period of our lives.

To the editor:

One hears a lot about how bad our health care system is in B.C. Recently our family had a great deal to do with the system during a very traumatic period of our lives.

I would like to state that we have nothing but praise for the care and treatment received by my wife during the last two months of her life at Kelowna General Hospital, Hospice House and with the palliative team from May Bennett.

From the staff of the emergency, surgical and medical wards we received nothing but the best of care and treatment. The staff of Hospice House were also loving and caring.

The surgical ward is in the oldest part of the hospital and is in need of replacement. The staff on that floor do the very best they can under some trying conditions. The medical ward is in the new section of Kelowna General and is less crowded with more space for the staff and patients.

We would like to thank our family doctor Tim Murphy and Dr. Gary Victor and the whole staff of the hospital and Hospice House for the care and concern that was given to our wife and mother during the last days of her life. Thanks also to the palliative care staff of May Bennett for all their help and assistance.

The health care system in B.C. may be bent but, it is far from being broken.

Lorne Pittman and family.
