Bob Zimmer says tax increases are hard on small businesses

Editor,

Time and time again, my Conservative colleagues and I have heard that small businesses in British Columbia and across the country are worried about higher taxes and increased red tape.

They certainly aren’t getting any help from Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government. This past summer marked the one-year anniversary of the Liberal Small Business Tax Grab. The Liberals’ job-killing proposals included a 73 per cent tax on savings income. And although Conservatives and Canadians forced them to back off from the worst elements of their plan, they will return if the Liberals are re-elected in 2019.

We also can’t forget Justin Trudeau’s carbon tax. This summer, the Liberals quietly lowered the carbon tax rate for big polluters while keeping it the same for small and medium-size businesses. That means huge corporations with expensive lobbyists will get a break while hard-working small business owners and entrepreneurs will pay full freight.

Canada’s Conservatives know that small businesses are the backbone of the Canadian economy, and we will fight Liberal tax increases at every opportunity. In fact, we’re looking forward to celebrating Small Business Week this October to recognize contributions of local businesses to Canada’s economy.

Businesses in Northern B.C. can rest assured that Canada’s Conservatives will continue to fight for their best interests.
