LETTER: Peace Arch crossing ‘volatile,’ says neighbour

Editor:

We’ve lived across from the Peace Arch Park for the past 20 years – possibly the most volatile park on or close to the Canada-U.S. border. We know of three dying in flaming car crashes, a customs officer being seriously shot, a shootout on the U.S. side, a suicide, many arrests of border jumpers, some of whom call 911 to get arrested, believing that they will have to be processed, which can take many months or even years, and a nearby neighbour guiding people across the park for a fee and then transporting to Bellingham.

These are just a few of the incidents. The transportation of gasoline from Blaine in jerry cans when people fill up is a ticking time bomb in regard to the possibility of being rear-ended.

Our authorities need to be attending to this recently increased problem. Enjoy your walk in the park.
