LETTER – Regional district should buy Stotan Falls land from 3L

Dear editor,

Dear editor,

Perhaps you, too, were at the well-attended meeting organized by the Comox Valley Regional District on September 6th. This was an information meeting regarding the possible amendment of our regional district’s Growth Strategy Plan as requested by the 3L Corporation.

Having heard the presentations by both the Regional District and 3L and having listened to the wide range of public questions and comments, I would like to suggest that at the end of the day, most of us would agree that the area at issue (around Stotan Falls) is a Comox Valley jewel well worth preserving for public use.

Its natural beauty and environmental value are to be treasured and preserved in perpetuity.

As such, this land should never have been privatized.

Prudent or not, it has been privatized. 3L now owns it.

Moving forward, my hope is that there will be enough goodwill of enough people and enough support of the Regional District’s board of directors to be able to buy this property back from 3L and make it public park land. Our Regional Growth Strategy Plan should not be amended to allow residential development in this area.

We have successfully bought from developers before with areas like MacDonald Wood Park in Comox. We are in the process of doing so with Kus-Kus-Sum. Let us be wise enough to do it with this area too!

Wendy Langdale,

Comox Valley
