To the editor:
With less than two weeks before the Parkinson Pleasure Painters’ Art Show and Sale was to be held at the Parkinson Activity Centre, the City of Kelowna has informed this group of amateur painters that there will be charges for a business licence, a site fee and insurance costs amounting to about $500.
We have held an annual show and sale for more than 20 years, both at the former senior centre on Water Street and for the last three years at the new Parkinson Activity Centre.
At not one of those shows have we been charged any amount and we are shocked that this is now expected. We have never charged admission and we have supplied refreshments ourselves to guests by donation only.
Because the City of Kelowna has made this cost-prohibitive to this group of senior painters, we might have to cancel our show. Why is this being imposed on us at all and why at such short notice?
