Since the COVID-19 virus pandemic arrived I have heard nothing from either the provincial or federal government about subsidies for seniors.
We as seniors have listened to the governments over the years, advising us to put aside funds and investments while we were working.
This would help us augment our old-age-pension income. A lot of us took this advice and saved for years for our retirement.
Since the COVID-19 virus, most of us seniors have probably lost a lot of our savings and investments due to the virus.
We still have to pay such things as rent, mortgages and much higher food costs, taxes and whatever other expenses that are involved with day-to-day living.
We are doing this without any subsidies to help us financially from either government, as they have done for other phases of the population.
For weeks I have been waiting to hear what subsidies or help are coming to the senior citizens from either of the governments, but have heard nothing.
I was always under the impression that funds should be equally distributed between the all groups that are in need, and seniors are part of this.
When the COVID-19 virus comes to an end, seniors will be expected to do their share, paying taxes, and yet we have received no relief or subsidies. Some seniors will have to look for work in order to catch up and survive.
When listening to the Prime Minister and the Premier, they say “We are all in this together,” but it appears that seniors don’t count.
I would hope that government will look at giving seniors some subsidies as they have for other population groups.
