Police Chief Bob Rich, whose budget takes a major hit on taxpayers, leaves us sorrowfully short on traffic enforcement and police presence.
His take is that his priority is major crime.
My take is that marked vehicles and unmarked cars doing traffic stops and presence would heavily deter these wannabes who drive around in the loud blacked-out (illegal) vehicles, thundering down our streets undeterred.
Perhaps our chief would be more effective with major crime by increasing traffic patrols at critical times, using the staff he has more effectively and abiding by his mandate.
Police doing traffic enforcement may be somewhat adversarial to the PR-conscious chief, but it is a major part of the job.
