Letter: Slow traffic on the highway getting worse

Driving on Highway 97 in the South Okanagan is very frustrating

Almost three times a week I travel to Oliver or Penticton.

I have lived here a long time and was familiar with the traffic in the area during the summer months, but now it is very frustrating for people who have appointments, got to get to work, or just shop.

Going to Penticton is somewhat better until you’re travelling 80 kilometres/hour, just to have a slow car pull out from Kaleden. Coming home is scary with that terrible corner where the highway meets up with the one to Keremeos. I try to stay on the inside lane and even signal I am staying left—however, one comes out in front of me, just barely missing that car.

Now the commute to Osoyoos, that is very frustrating. It is hard not to have road rage. You’ve got a guy in his fancy motorhome not going the speed limit but 70 km (the speed limit is 80 km). Going through Oliver they continue looking around, not paying attention to the number of cars behind. It is worse to not drive the speed limit than speed. If an RV unit or car has five people wanting to pass, pull over let them go about their day.

They are on holiday, we who live here have to work, driving so slow that people are late for appointments due to slow traffic.
