Letter: Stamp club gives back

Stamp lovers raised $40,000 for charity since 2015

I am writing to thank the communities of Penticton, Summerland, Naramata, Kaleden, OK Falls and region for their support of the Penticton and District Stamp Club. Thanks to your donations of stamp material for our auctions, we have been able, since we began this project in 2015, to raise over $40,000 for local charities, including over $30,000 for the new hospital wing.

We have also produced a number of “covers,” i.e. illustrated envelopes with special stamps, to celebrate the community, including a “mourning cover” for the last Greyhound bus (sorry, all sold out). This year’s cover will be for the official opening of the hospital wing.

In earlier times, stamp collecting was a widespread hobby, so I believe that despite the generous donations in the past few years, there are still a number of collections mouldering in the attics and basements of the area. Please consider dredging them out and donating them for auction — the proceeds will be donated to a charity of your choice.

We try to give back to the community a bit more than it gives to us. If you can think of ways that our expertise can help you or entertain you, give us a call. Donations or requests will reach me at 250-493-6955 or at jcegreene@gmail.com.
