The Editor,
I believe Surrey’s soon-to-be voted-out mayor, Doug McCallum, refuses to allot money for RCMP policing because it would support the RCMP in crime reduction.
The NDP government in Victoria should have ensured that if there were to be a transition to a municipal force that safety was paramount and uncompromised.
Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth seems much less than concerned or he would insist that McCallum free up money to support the RCMP while they are investigating multiple gangland shootings. In doing so, public safety would be better managed and serious criminal offences mitigated.
What if McCallum does not win the next election? Does that mean the entire costly process must be unwound?
Let us all remember on the next election day that this mayor couldn’t care less about his constituents and taxpayers any more than his insincere signing on to the climate emergency – which is a joke as we watch clear-cutting development run rampant in our city. Remember this for the next election.
