This week, Penticton is playing host to the incredibly successful ITU Multisport World Championships.
It’s great to see the team uniforms and flags from 36-plus countries — Mexico, Australia, USA, France, Spain, Switzerland and Canada — around town enjoying the city and our local businesses. It’s a testament to our region to be able to welcome all those athletes — nearly 3,600 — and their families for the five grueling events that were part of the championships.
I’d like to say thank you to the team at MB Events and the International Triathlon Union (ITU) for organizing such a wonderful event and to all the athletes for participating.
Special thanks must go out to the City of Penticton. They dedicate a lot of time and energy to making our city a premier destination for events like this.
Most of all, I’d like to thank the volunteers. A big part of the success of these events, and the reason that Penticton is such a go-to destination for event organizers, is the commitment of the volunteers in this community. It’s for precisely this reason Valley First chose to be the Official Volunteer Sponsor again this year.
At the volunteer awards banquet on Aug. 28, we will celebrate all volunteer efforts and honour three exceptional volunteers nominated by their peers for lifetime achievement awards.
Regardless of who wins the awards, I’d personally like to thank each and every volunteer for helping make this event a success. Congratulations.
Thank you, Penticton.

President, Valley First, a division of First West Credit Union
