LETTER: Things back on track at Kennedy Seniors Centre cafe

After troubles with menu and food quality, the Kennedy Society's president says it's looking up

(RE: “Seniors centre struggling with engagement” NDR Vol. 3 No. 22, May 31, 2018)

I am the current president of the Kennedy Seniors Society which, together with the City of Delta, operates the Kennedy Seniors [Recreation] Centre.

Recently there have been articles and letters to the editor in your newspaper commenting on and criticizing the café within the centre.

Due to various factors, the former board had experienced declining participation by the directors and were inattentive to the café problems.

Our recently installed board of directors is enthusiastic, energetic and has a strong desire to provide the services and activities demanded by our members. The board has been well aware of the problems in our café since our installation in March and we have been diligently working towards correcting these faults, particularly in finding a new café operator.

Today, I am happy to report that for the past two weeks chefs David and Lucy have been operating the café in a very successful manner, garnering enthusiastic acceptance and solid patronage by our membership. We have heard nothing but compliments from members for the new café operators who are providing delicious freshly prepared meals for our seniors.

The board is also actively seeking new activities and programs for the upcoming fall season.

All board members are working hard on their designated portfolios to again have the Kennedy Seniors Centre be the social hub for seniors in North Delta.
