Editor: Triple A Senior Housing wishes to congratulate all Langley mayors and councillors who have been elected or re-elected to represent the residents of the City and Township of Langley.
We are encouraged that 13 of the total of 16 elected council members signed on to B.C. Non-Profit Housing Association’s “Make Housing Central” pledge to show their support for affordable housing: In the Towship: Blair Whitmarsh, Bob Long, David Davis, Kim Richter Margaret Kunst, Petrina Arnason, Steve Ferguson; In the City: Gayle Martin Nathan Pachal, Paul Albrecht, Rosemary Wallace, Teri James, Val van den Broek.
We also wish to thank all candidates who gave of their time and resources to offer themselves for service in both communities. A special thanks to the 14 who also pledged to “Make Housing Central” in their campaign.
Triple A Senior Housing is certainly looking forward to an opportunity to partner with councils in both the City and Township to preserve and develop housing options for seniors through councillors’ fulfillment of their pledge to:
• Contribute public land for new affordable homes;
• Protect the existing supply of affordable housing;
• Zone land for rental housing development;
• Fast-track the development of affordable housing and;
• Partner with the community housing sector to create new co-op and non- profit homes.
We believe that as a result of the interaction between candidates and citizens during the election campaign, both City and Township councils are more aware than ever of the urgent need for below-market, rent-geared-to-income, affordable rental housing for all low-income members of our communities.
Let’s not forget what we heard. Let’s move forward together to make housing central for seniors and others in our communities.
