LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Big spill may come, small spills happening every day

All kinds of harmful materials are going down the drains, says letter writer

To the editor,

The railway is now making big profits shipping record numbers of oil tankers from the oil sands to the B.C. coast. Are the rails safe for that?

But society demands petroleum and its byproducts; plastics are in almost everything. The asphalt shingles on your roof, all asphalt roadways, any hair products containing ether, ethyl or methyl in any form. The list of products is mind-boggling. A lot of these products go down the drain and into the ocean. So all roads have tires wearing out on them, brakes too. Dry days it’s dust, rainy days, washed down the drains and into the ocean. This is just a sample of ocean pollution that is right now happening. It’s not some imaginary oil spill, it’s happening.
