LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Clarity on COVID-19 locations would help

Why can't Island Health just say the city where cases occur, asks letter writer

To the editor,

Re: Locations of COVID-19 cases aren’t public for privacy reasons, March 25.

Reading the article about withholding COVID-19 case locations due to privacy, I have a response. Instead of just stipulating the Island Health area, why can’t they just say the city it comes from or the town or community? It doesn’t matter the exact location, just the area that it has come from: Nanaimo, Ladysmith, Lantzville, Parksville, etc.

I travel for work – I’m in many different communities – and so does my wife. We actually practise self-distancing between each other even though we live in the same house. We are concerned, for I do have a respiratory issue and have been hospitalized because of it.
