To the editor,
Re: Nanaimo mayor and council salaries going up, Dec. 20.
Whatever happened to accepting the pay offered on applying for the job, which incidentally, they did? One should not expect an increase before being in the job for at least six months to one year. Perhaps it is a conflict of interest to give themselves an increase. I think that government is one of the only places (other than perhaps CEOs) that give themselves a pay raise (Wish I could give myself a pay raise).
So one has to ask the question, why do they think that they deserve a pay increase, with no production to say that they have earned it? The answer is because our system says they can, and they are arrogant to think that they deserve it because they got elected.
